What I Can Write as a Personal Blogger—not a Motoring Journalist

*The photo at the top is just a picture of a Panamera I happened to take at the Gusto restaurant I visited today. It has nothing to do with this article, lol.
Why Write About Porsche and Nothing Else?
The other day, I showed my blog to someone I know, and they asked, “Why don’t you write about cars other than Porsche?” It got me thinking, and for now, I don’t plan to write about other makes. (Though I have written about golf and Mercedes-Benz from time to time.) The reason is simple:
I write this blog because I want to.
I’m not writing because someone told me to. It all began with the thought, “I’m going to write a blog about the Panamera I love so much.” I write in the hope that I can share even a little of what makes Porsche—and the Panamera—so special with all of you.
I Can Write About What I Truly Believe In
I guess I’m just not very good at faking it. Back when I worked in sales at my previous company, I could hit 500% of my target with products I genuinely thought were great. But if I couldn’t honestly say a product was good, I’d sell only about 10% of my target.
My boss used to tell me, “You’re so easy to read.”
It’s the same with this blog. I think Porsche is truly wonderful, so I never run out of things to say about it. But when it comes to other carmakers, I don’t know their cars as well, and I haven’t driven many of them. More than that, I just don’t feel inspired to write about them.
A Regular Person’s Point of View
Some time ago, a car blogger I look up to as my mentor (though I appointed him to the role myself, haha) gave me this advice:
The value of an automotive blog is that “you can share subjective opinions.” Dealers and motoring journalists find it difficult to say things like, “I love this about this car” or “This is better than a competitor’s,” when talking about their own products or a particular manufacturer. As a result, they often have to stick to objective information such as figures and specifications. But we’re just regular people, so we can freely share opinions like “It looks great,” “I want one,” and “That’s amazing!” We can compare it with cars from other brands, too. That may be exactly the kind of information blog readers are looking for.
I remember thinking, “That makes sense…” He was absolutely right.
Honest, Human, and Unfiltered
I don’t have the specialist knowledge of a motoring journalist or automotive critic, but there are things I can write about precisely because I’m an ordinary person who loves Porsche.
That said, I can’t deny I’m biased toward Porsche…
But I think that very human, honest side—where you can catch a glimpse of what I really think—is where I get to say what matters to me. And perhaps that’s what readers can relate to.
So I hope I can keep publishing articles in this same spirit.
Thinking about it, Kazuo Shimizu is seriously impressive for being so openly pro-Porsche, especially given his standing in the industry, haha.
