Test Driving the S660

Now, here are my impressions from the test drive. The S660’s doors feel solid for a kei car, and the seat quality is very good.

Sitting in the seat, I noticed it’s lower than I expected, and there’s no vertical seat adjustment, but as a woman, I think it would be easier to drive if the seat height could be raised a bit.

The clutch is light, and the short shift lever makes gear changes easy. When I drove the Roadster, I also felt the clutch was light and shallow, making it easy to use, so compared to that, the 981 Boxster GTS’s clutch feels heavy and deep. (Some domestic sports cars apparently have heavy clutches too.)

Once driving, I felt the “car feels light but solidly built.” It really feels like a seriously made sports car. Amazing that a kei car can be built so well.

The clutch and shift operations are easy and not nerve-wracking for a first-time driver. It’s truly a manual sports car that women can enjoy driving.

The S660 feels like “driving one gear lower than when I drive the Boxster.” Hills I take in 3rd gear in the Boxster are tackled in 2nd gear here, and curves I take in 3rd gear in the Boxster are taken in 2nd gear in the S660. Also, with the top down and autumn breeze flowing as I corner, the small size and nimbleness made me feel like I was riding a motorcycle (…though I’ve never ridden one (-_-)).

With this, you could easily enjoy narrow roads on motorcycle touring maps that typical sports cars can’t handle due to size.

However, because the car is low, the wind hits the top of my head directly, messing up my hair there, but overall, I felt the Boxster lets in more wind.

The S660 is a casual open sports car perfect for quick local shopping trips. Driving the Boxster for a quick errand feels a bit over the top, but with this, even a few minutes’ drive to the store is fun open-air sports driving. It’s truly a perfect car for car-loving couples!
