Car Seats Matter Not Only for Comfort but Also for Safety

Panamera Seats

The other day, while riding in the Panamera, my husband said,

The Panamera is an amazing car, but I just can’t get comfortable with this 14-way memory electric seat no matter what…

He’s often mentioned that the Panamera’s seats just don’t quite fit him. Until now, I’d always said, “Really? I find them perfectly comfortable.” But recently, when I got to drive the Panamera GTS with its 18-way electric adaptive sport seats, I noticed how thick and enveloping those seats felt—extremely comfortable.

After experiencing that, I realized our Panamera’s seats do feel a bit thin and firm in comparison.

He said,

When it comes to driving, seats are a crucial factor. Especially for me, since I often do long-distance touring, the seat really affects how tired I feel.
We chose the standard 14-way seats on our Turbo without much thought back then, but now I regret not going for the 18-way seats.
The 14-way seats have thinner cushions and no matter how I adjust, my back never quite fits right. So personally, they don’t feel right and I get tired more easily. Of course, this depends on your body shape too.

I see…

When I asked, “How about the seats in the GT3?”, he replied,

Our GT3 has the adaptive sport seats plus (electric 18-way), but ideally, I wanted the full carbon bucket seats. They look incredible and are only available on special models, so they’re quite rare. However, the carbon bucket seats are very upright and don’t recline at all, so you can’t lean back to rest during long tours.
Considering that, I chose not to get them.

He continued,

I also thought the standard sport seats plus might be fine, but I wanted the interior stitching to match the exterior color, Crayon. To do that, you have to select the Leather Package along with the adaptive sport seats plus.
If you don’t choose the Leather Package, you can’t pick the stitching color.

Porsche options really are complicated…

By the way, regarding the feature that lets you move the passenger seat from the driver’s side in the Panamera, the standard seats on the Panamera, Panamera 4, Panamera 4S, Panamera 4 Executive, and Panamera 4S Executive do not support this. You have to choose at least the 14-way memory electric seats (front seats) option to get it.

Wow… so complicated, haha.

Seats and Tires Are Very Important for a Car

About the importance of car seats, my husband said,

I believe the two most important parts of a car are the tires and the seats. Tires are the only parts that contact the ground, so they’re extremely important. They directly affect ride comfort and handling, yet many people don’t pay attention to tire pressure or brand.
Seats are the part where the human body connects most directly with the car. They’re vital for safety and comfort. If the seat is thin or doesn’t fit your body, you get tired quickly, and in emergency maneuvers, if the seat can’t hold your body properly, it’s dangerous.
Nowadays, seats have improved a lot, but if you think about the thin, flat bench seats in older kei cars, it’s hard to avoid something quickly because your body gets pushed by lateral G-forces and you can’t steer as intended.
When choosing a car, it’s good to consider safety features, but before that, you need to check the seat’s quality carefully. It’s directly linked to safety and comfort.

Makes a lot of sense.

Standard seat of the Nissan Note NISMO S. Quite thick and offers good support.

When choosing a car, many factors come into play—design, body color, engine, engine sound—but seats are also very important. Thinking about all this makes choosing just one car a real challenge.

Lately, I’ve been feeling how deep and complex car selection really is.
