If You’re Buying a New Porsche Cayenne, Here’s the Spec We’d Choose—Our Configurator Build Topped ¥12 Million

About the New Cayenne

The new Cayenne opened for orders in December 2017. The lineup comprises three models: the Cayenne at ¥9.76 million, the Cayenne S at ¥12.88 million, and the Cayenne Turbo at ¥18.55 million. A plug-in hybrid model was also expected to follow.

Porsche offers plenty of models that cost more than ¥10 million before you add a single option, so your sense of what’s expensive can get a little skewed. Seen in that context, the new Cayenne almost seems affordable… But when you stop and think about it, it’s still a seriously expensive car (-_-).

I’ve ridden in the back of a Cayenne, but I’ve never actually driven one. With the new model arriving, I started wondering what it was like and decided to look into it online.

Wait, Is Adaptive Cruise Control Standard?

In one test-drive review, I read that Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) comes as standard. It wasn’t listed on the official Porsche Japan website, though. Normally, you’d expect to find ACC under “Optional Equipment” → “Interior” in the configurator, but it wasn’t there. So perhaps it really is standard…

When we bought our Panamera Turbo, adding Adaptive Cruise Control as an option cost ¥433,000. If it comes standard on the Cayenne, that’s a pretty great deal.
→ After this article was published, my husband emailed me: “Looks like ACC really is standard. The press kit says, ‘The Cayenne comes standard with cruise control with a speed limiter function, which helps regulate driving speed and the distance to the vehicle ahead.’” So there you have it: ACC is standard.

I Casually Asked My Husband…

I happened to ask my husband, “I wonder what the new Cayenne is like ( ´ー`)?” I meant it as a casual question, but I must have flipped a switch. He immediately started researching the new Cayenne at full speed, muttering things like:

So the new Cayenne does 0–100 km/h in 6.2 seconds. That’s plenty quick, so no need for the S or Turbo—the base model will do. We probably wouldn’t take a Cayenne up Royu Driveway or anything… Still, the Sport Chrono Package and Rear Axle Steering are must-haves. That blue is a beautiful color.

After a while, he showed me the configurator and declared, “This is how I’d spec mine ( ̄ー ̄)b!” Wait—he’d gone and built his ideal Cayenne in the configurator, even though we weren’t buying one?! (LOL)

“Wait, floor mats cost ¥33,000? Isn’t that a bit much ( ゚д゚ )!?” I exclaimed. “Yep. Mats with the manufacturer’s logo can cost tens of thousands of yen, even for Japanese cars. We could always get a cheaper set from Autobacs,” he replied. The car world is something else. Still, I’m curious about the new Cayenne—maybe I’ll go take it for a test drive.

We later attended the “The New Cayenne Debut Fair.” Read about our visit and test-drive impressions in these articles:
