Porsche Owners File #7] 971 Panamera 4E Hybrid - Purchase, Options and Driving Review

Porsche Panamera

4) Fuel consumption

According to a dealer representative who drives the same Panamera 4E-hybrid.Used to go back and forth between home and work, a distance of about 10 kilometers."So he started riding in April and the first time he refueled was in October!(Six months later!)And there's a fast-charging station at the dealership.

In my case, the distance to my workplace is about 30 km and I can barely go one way in E mode. And there is no charging station at my workplace, so it is unlikely that I can do what this dealer representative is doing. However, I think it is possible for some people.
My Panamera is currently showing about 15km/L (35miles/gallon), but it should be able to run longer if I drive it with care. But now I can't resist the temptation to step on the gas pedal in sport mode (laughs).

(5) Ride comfort, glide taste

-Both "Sports" and "Comfort

You can feel the solid rigidity of the body, including its construction. Most of the time, the air suspension settings leave the chassis in Medium. The only time I feel the benefit of the Hard & Low Sport+ mode in city driving is when turning on high speed ramps or intersections at above legal speeds.
In E-mode and Hybrid mode, the vehicle rides in a relaxed and comfortable manner.I have never driven a car that combines "sportiness" and "comfort" so well.It is.

-Adaptive Cruise Control

In terms of ride quality other than engine, handling, and suspension, we are talking about the assist function. This is a comparison with the Volvo XC90.Adaptive cruise control with traffic jam assist is still useful. It is indispensable when driving at the same speed for long distances at high speeds or in traffic jams.
Panamera's sensors are very goodI feel that Volvo is also quite reputable in this area. Volvo also has quite a reputation in this area, but it is second to none. I rarely feel stressed about returning to speed when the car in front of me disappears, or conversely, slowing down when there is an interruption.

Lane keeping assist

Secondly, about lane keeping, Mina's blog mentioned that the car would move to the right, but so far I have not had that feeling and it seems to keep the car in the center. Some people may not like the strange response when the assist is activated, but the Volvo has more mechanical input and I often felt uncomfortable with it.
In that sense, I like the Panamera's Lane Keep Assist because it is unobtrusive.

The points of concern areThe occasional subtle correction that is not necessary, perhaps in response to something else at an intersection.I am not sure if it is my imagination or not, or what the reason is, but I don't know the details yet. Also, there is a warning sound when the car crosses lanes, but I thought it would be better if this was communicated by the vibration of the steering wheel rather than the sound.

(6) Family reaction

The design and driving are both well received by the family. The children areMuch better than the Maserati Ghibli."I say. Two reasons. The "quietness" and the "comfort of the Rear Seat."It seems I was the only one who was happy with the Maserati's high-pitched engine noise... The back seat is certainly better than the Maserati. There is more space, and the seats themselves are softer, which seems to be appreciated by the passengers.

(Left: Maserati Ghibli Right: Panamera Leg space is much wider in the Panamera. (There is less danger of the seats being kicked and getting dirty.)

(7) Favorite point

Marsala interior color and acid green brake calipersIt is. As for the Marsala color of the interior, the seats, steering wheel, and console are all one color. It is a burgundy color, but in the right light it looks brownish. I like it because it has a sense of luxury and color.

The acid green brake calipers are a statement that this Panamera is a hybrid, as well as a color accent.
I like it very much.

8) Others

I've never had a PHV car before.A fresh experience of "installing a charging port on the wall of my garage at home and charging when I get home"It is. In the U.S. it usually takes 13-14 hours for a full charge at 110V, but you can install a 220V outlet, and if you do that, you can charge the battery in 3-4 hours. But there doesn't seem to be any situation where you need to charge the battery in such a hurry. Not necessary unless it's a full EV like Tesla.I feel as if it is.

(This type of charging port can be easily done as a DIY project since it is only fastened with two screws.)

In addition, theThere is a button on the right side of the steering wheel marked with a diamond, which can be assigned to various functions. When entering a multi-level parking garage with steps or an uphill slope, I set it to "LIFT" to raise the vehicle height, which is very convenient because I can raise the vehicle height with a single touch, reducing the risk of going down.

(5) Options you would definitely want to add (or have added) if you were to purchase a Porsche in the future.

Although not an option, I would love to drive a PHV and possibly a Porsche EV in the future. Also, regarding the rumors of a hybrid 911, I am curious to see what kind of car it will be. I am sure that this field will continue to evolve in the future in terms of cruising range, motor power, weight reduction, etc., and I would like to experience the advances in this technology.
I feel that rear axle steering is essential for the Panamera with its long overall length, and the assist function is also essential for me. It is very helpful especially in traffic jams.

(6) Areas of concern

brake

What I am concerned about is the brakes; according to Mina's articlePorsche brakes squeal and they work pretty tight."The E-Hybrid's brakes, of course, have great braking power, but they also generate electricity from the regenerative energy of the brakes, which makes them a bit loose. The Ghibli's brakes are more aggressive than the E-Hybrid's. The E-Hybrid's brakes are a bit more mature than the Ghibli's.
It is a drawback, and I am happy to think that it is just like the F1 and 919 cars of today that generate electricity with it to prepare for the next acceleration. By the way, there has been no "squeal" so far. I am not sure if it is an individual difference or because it is an E-Hybrid...but I dare say that I am concerned about the brakes.

Smartphone Apps

Also, regarding the smartphone app, Precooling, Preheating, etc. can be done from the iPhone app, but the connection is a bit unstable. Also, there are quite a few times when a Connection error appears.

(Right: Connection not available between PCC server and car in many cases)

(7) General comments

I bought one 4E-hybrid and I'm really happy with it.I am impressed every day to see that it is possible to combine sport driving and comfort at such a high level. Every day I am impressed by the fact that it is possible to combine sport driving and comfort at such a high level.
The Panamera 4E-hybrid is in the mood.A car that satisfies everyone depending on the occasion. The "Sport Mode" is for those who want to experience the "drive" of a Porsche alone. If you want to experience the "driving" of a Porsche alone, you can drive in Sport mode. If you want to drive quietly and leisurely with your family, you can drive in Hybrid or E-mode. Of course, there are times when you want to drive alone in peace and quiet, and we are happy to be able to drive according to your mood.

However, the basis of Porsche is still sports driving. The speed, technology, and reliability proven in the 919 can be experienced in the Panamera E-HybridI think it is.

8) What is Porsche to you?

Encountering the Unknown

I am not an expert on Porsche and this is the first time I have driven one since it was delivered. I am looking forward to the future.

〘The blog manager's opinion 〙
I am very envious that the Rear 2+1 seat option is available in the US. I also realized from SN's report that no matter how much Porsche evolves, it is still "a sports car" as ever. I wish I could drive a hybrid too...thank you, SN!

  1. Tommy.

I ordered a Panamera in Japan in November 2018 and was able to choose the 5-passenger option with the 4+1 seat option.I found this article while doing an image search to see if I could find a child seat that would fit well in the rear center seat, which is not ISOFIX compatible. I was surprised to see that the article was written in English when I found it, but I was surprised to see that it was written in Japanese as well, I am very impressed with the great amount of information. Thank you very much.

      Mr. Tommy.
Thank you for visiting our blog.

      >I ordered a Panamera in Japan in November 2018 and was able to choose the 5 passenger option with the 4+1 seat option.
Oooh, I see! I envy you... if I could do that, my Panamera would be all right... I really envy you...!

      >I was surprised that the article was written in English when I found it, but I didn't expect it to be written in Japanese as well.
Thank you! Actually, it didn't take me much time at all, because I automatically translate the articles I wrote in Japanese into English and make them stand alone as English articles.
      However, sometimes the translation is quite different... I think I need to review it regularly ^^^;

I would be happy to exchange information about Panamera again.
      Keep up the good work!
