In-Depth Test Drive of the Taikan: Is this a Porsche? Is this a Porsche or just a fast car?

Porsche Taikan Turbo
Reviews & Test Rides

My husband wrote a test drive report on the Porsche Taikan that he was recently allowed to test drive. Please take a look if you would like to read it.

First, experience the Porsche Taikan in the passenger seat.

As for Taikan, I have test-driven it several times. The first test ride on a circuit., ,Second test ride on the street.I happened to be able to borrow the car for a little longer this time, and was able to take my time riding it, so I would like to give a detailed review of it in various situations.

As usual, we will not provide a detailed product description of the interior and exterior usability and functions. We will not go into detail about the interior and exterior usability or functions of the car, as we always do.

Interior of Porsche Taikan Turbo

This Taikan is "Turbo" gradeIt will be the It is the second most expensive grade after the Turbo S. However, this turbo is so loaded with options that it is almost like a turbo S.

To start the Taikan, simply press the start button and set the selector lever next to the handlebars to D. There is no such thing as a side brake anymore. Therefore, the driver must get into the car and press theSimply push the button to D range and the Taikan is ready to run.

The start-up is very smooth. As will be described later, there is nothing severe about the gas pedal work, and the car starts smoothly and smoothly, as one would not expect from such violent instantaneous force and acceleration.

One of the points that impressed me when I rode Taikan this time was thisAccelerator operabilityThe difference lies in the following two points. If you step on the pedal slowly, you will not be aware of the sudden torque of the electric motor. On the other hand, if you step on the pedal vigorously, the strong torque of the electric motor will start up instantly.

Controls as if the Taikan is reading the driver's intentions and adjusting the gas pedal opening. It is.

As we started out and went through the usual neighborhood streets, it was very similar to the ride of our 992.Gusseted and grounded, you can even feel the roughness of the road surface. It is.

Compared to the Cayenne and Panamera, the level of clarity of this roughness of the road surface is slightly different.More solid than Cayenne or PanameraIt is. However, to be clear, this feeling of roughness is very slight and quite low level, and I am not writing this in the sense of a bad ride or anything like that.

As we pulled onto the mountain road, the mood I felt in the passenger seat as my wife drove was, 'I'm not sure I'm going to make it.sports carThe car will make you think that you are driving a "Mazda3". The driver will experience a feeling of solidity in the body that is totally different from that of a European sedan of the same size, and a sense of cornering with little displacement.

When my wife stepped on the accelerator a little on a straight uphill, the acceleration was still great. This sense of acceleration is unique and cannot be experienced with an engine-powered car. It's a slightly uphill road, but forward, almost as if it were falling.I think. It's like we are free-falling toward the direction of travel.

The acceleration of the Taikan can be most accurately described as "falling off" in the direction of travel.

Porsche Taikan on the winding road

Instead of driving, I take over the steering wheel. I try the same light driving on the usual winding roads.Handling is that of a sports car.It doesn't turn as sharply as a 911, or as smoothly around corners as a Cayman Boxster, but it's still a very nice car.Compared to the Panamera and other models, the handling is clearly closer to the 911 series.

this (something or someone close to the speaker (including the speaker), or ideas expressed by the speaker)The car has a very low center of gravity due to the PDCC installed and the heavy battery under the floor. So, the roll is really low. So, you can turn around corners with a lot of confidence.

The brakes are also excellent, with good braking power and Porsche-like controllability. The brakes on the Taikan are mainly regenerative, but they feel like physical brakes. They feel natural and natural. The level of switching from regenerative braking to physical braking, for example, is completely unrecognizable. The following is a list of the most common problems with the "C" in the "C" column.

This is the same feeling I had when I tried it on the circuit.

On the other hand, when you drive on a winding road that you're used to, like this one, you'll find thatCompared to an engine-powered Porsche, the lateral Gs feel greater. This is probably due to the low roll and the large inertia from its weight of over 2.3 tons. My wife, who rides in the front passenger seat, said, "I feel more lateral G's than usual.I don't think I'm the only one who feels this way, because he said several times, "I'm not the only one who feels this way.

Put the car in Sport Plus mode and accelerate harder to test acceleration. The torque rise at the moment of stepping on the pedal is tremendous. If I had to venture a guess, it would be easier to understand if I were to say that G-forces are applied to the front and rear in opposite directions, as if the driver were stepping on the emergency brake.

I don't know if you can measure it accurately with an accelerometer, but I can tell you that it feelsThe G-forces are much more tremendous than the full acceleration of the GT3 in 2nd gear.To say the least, it was like the G's of full acceleration in second gear of a GT3 standing up in an instant. For a moment, I held my breath and even had the illusion that I was going to warp somewhere beyond time and space.

I always look forward to your Porsche reviews.
I am currently buying a Lexus RXF Sport in 2016 and a Porsche in 2021 for the fifth and final year of my life.
After all, I will be ordering a Porsche Panamera Hybrid in October.
I will be 70 years old next year and will be the 23rd generation to purchase a car, and my car history is full of memories of the cars that have come into our home.
I found your review of the website very informative this time, as I am experiencing the same thing. Thank you very much.

I look forward to more reviews in the future.

The car is scheduled for delivery in May 2022.

And to think that this is your 23rd car... wow...!
I imagine that you must have had a very nice car life so far.

I see the car is scheduled for delivery in May 22, a year from now!
I hope that by that time, things will have calmed down a lot and the world will be a place where people can go for a drive more easily.
Thank you for your continued support!
