A Comfortable Driver’s Car: The Porsche Panamera

Am I Overrating the Panamera?

In this blog, I have often praised the Panamera highly, but I have never driven its rival, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class (I’ve only ever ridden in the back seat), and I’ve only driven a BMW 7 Series a little during a test drive.

So when I evaluate the Panamera, I can only base it on how it feels when I drive it myself, which sometimes makes me wonder “Am I overrating the Panamera?”

Also, my husband’s brother once saw this blog and reportedly said, “This is just like Kazuo Shimizu, isn’t it? (laughs)” (Kazuo Shimizu, a former racer and automotive journalist, is famously a Porsche enthusiast) w, which made me think maybe I really am a Porsche fan.

A Blog About the Panamera

At that time, my husband sent me a blog post. It was from a blog he’s been reading for a while on Minkara, called “Traveling with Porsche… Goron Blog♪”. The blog features reviews of various wonderful cars, including the Porsche models the author owns.

Apparently, the author used to drive a Mercedes-Benz S-Class and has written comparison articles with Porsche, which I found very interesting.

The article my husband sent me was titled “The Porsche Panamera Is the Perfect Driver’s Car”. It covered the performance, ride comfort, fuel economy, cargo capacity, and overall evaluation of the Panamera Turbo Sport Turismo owned by Goron♪. Everything written there made me think “Exactly! That’s just how it is!” and it made me really happy.

Here are a few excerpts that especially resonated with me:

・Outstanding safety in driving performance. With rear axle steering, the Panamera, which is over 5 meters long, transforms into a car with a turning radius comparable to a Prius.

・Rear steering is essential; there’s no option more effective for driving and ride comfort.

・The 971 Panamera is the perfected form of a 4-door sedan (coupe, wagon) made by Porsche, a sports car manufacturer.

・It’s a car that runs comfortably, sticks to the road like glue, and has a body rigidity so high it doesn’t budge in any situation. As a 4-door driver’s car, few cars match its level of refinement and sensual appeal.

・The Panamera is a driver’s car that lets you enjoy driving comfortably. If you prioritize comfort above all else, you probably won’t be fully satisfied.

The Excellence of the Panamera… and Air-Cooled Porsches…

…Honestly, I think that’s exactly right. When I watched a program where Goro Okazaki explained the Panamera Turbo, I thought “Exactly!” and even wrote about it on this blog:

It’s so encouraging to see someone express the Panamera’s qualities so accurately.

…That said, changing the subject drastically (maybe too much w), my husband, who has been glued to air-cooled Porsche used car sites lately, finally said yesterday “I’m going to see and feel an air-cooled Porsche in person” and went all the way to a used car dealer in Nagoya.

He’s not buying yet; it’s just that he’s never ridden in an air-cooled Porsche and wants to see what it’s like… I’m a bit excited to hear what he thinks when he gets back.
