What’s the Difference Between the Porsche Panamera and Panamera Sport Turismo? Comparison Test Drive Vol.1

Reviews & Test Drives

Finally, the Panamera Sport Turismo.

About a month ago, I wrote an article about my brother-in-law buying a Panamera Turbo Sport Turismo.

The other day, my husband borrowed that Panamera Turbo Sport Turismo and drove it home.

Since we had the chance, I decided to do a test drive comparison between our Panamera Turbo and my brother-in-law’s Panamera Turbo Sport Turismo. In this article, I’d like to share the differences I personally felt between the two cars.

That day, after dropping off our daughters at kindergarten and nursery school in the morning, we headed to the Royu Driveway with both the Panamera and the Panamera Sport Turismo.

The differences go beyond just looks

Just after passing through the toll booth on the Royu Driveway, my husband and I switched drivers, and I got to drive the Panamera Turbo Sport Turismo up to the observatory. As an option, the center console’s small storage compartment bears the inscription “Panamera turbo.”

I had thought, “The Sport Turismo is just a Panamera with a different look,” but after driving it, I was surprised. The ride quality of the Panamera Turbo and the Panamera Turbo Sport Turismo was completely different.

My test drive lasted only about 10 minutes, but even in that short time, I could clearly feel the differences. Let me summarize the four main differences I noticed and my overall evaluation.

Differences ①–③

① Lively ride

The Sport Turismo felt very light and smooth when pressing the accelerator. The Panamera Turbo felt heavier and more massive. The handling was more responsive, almost as if the Panamera had shrunk in size.

② Firmer suspension

Our Panamera Turbo and the Panamera Turbo Sport Turismo have the same wheels and tires, and both feature air suspension, but the Sport Turismo’s suspension felt noticeably firmer. The Sport Turismo’s owner prefers slightly lower tire pressure, so if the pressure were set to the standard value, the suspension might feel even stiffer.

However, according to my brother-in-law, the Macan Turbo he previously owned had a smoother ride.

③ Quieter sound

Overall, the Sport Turismo was quieter. The test car didn’t have the optional sport exhaust installed yet, but it’s planned for the future, so I didn’t notice much difference in sound between Normal mode and Sport or Sport Plus modes. I thought it might be because the windows were closed, so I opened them, but still didn’t notice a significant difference.

Our Panamera Turbo has the sport exhaust option, and if you want to fully enjoy the V8 engine sound, the sport exhaust is probably a must-have option.
